Blurb!

Connelly Anders, a George Washington University sociology graduate student, discovers classified research documents that predict the collapse of our social order if extraterrestrial contact became public knowledge.  Connelly unravels the ultimate conspiracy when he exposes James Jarvis, the embattled director of the secret government project, code named Rubicon.

Connelly links the project to a covert operation in Mexico that studies cultural reaction to UFOs.  He then discovers a curious reference about the resilience of the Mormon religion if alien contact is made.  Connelly uncovers Jarvis’s backdoor efforts to protect mankind by influencing society through the surge of conservative media and the nomination of a Mormon candidate for president.

A challenge to George Noory
I just watch the new show Unexplained with George Noory on the sci-fi channel.

I was disappointed. It is the same old main stream vanilla content.  Although I am biased in the matter, I want something new.  When is the last time you have heard a new theory about UFO’s, Bigfoot or Ghosts, which was the subject of tonight episode?

Yet fringe, not corporate backed main stream mystery shows like George Noory;s find and give voice to this content.  Again these are the shows that I find myself on promoting my new and divergent perspective on such mysteries.

My challenge to George Noory is to look broader, look deeper and bring something new to the table.

Aliens and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Now you might suspect that I of all people would love that this wonderful film franchise would embrace the theory of extraterrestrial colonization that produced cultural influence on our society.

Sorry to say I found the movie rather predictable.

I thought a better plot line would have leapt from the last movie.  We know that the Holy Grail didn’t bring immortality out side of the temple, but what about extraordinary long life.

Have Indiana Jones come out of a cave into the modern age.  Have him deal with technology and morays of our society.

Hey, that is just as believable as inter-dimensional space alien with crystal skeletons.

See my response to an email about Mormon belief in ET’s

First I should clarify something; Belief in extraterrestrial life (the green or gray variety) is not a common belief among Mormons. I’ve been a Mormon for over 30 years and I can’t recall any time while at church or any other activity in which we had a discussion about “extraterrestrial life”.  So don’t view Mormonism through the prism of this work of fiction.  In the same vein I wrote a book about Bigfoot and made a connection to the LDS church, but again I’m probably among a very very few that think about these things.  Just fiction, just for fun and entertainment.

Let me phrase this it this way:  Do Mormons believe that God created many world and is the God of the universe and that of the many worlds he has created there are humans like us that inhabit those worlds?  Yes we believe that.

We really don’t talk about it very much, but it is there. I think if you ask other Christian religions they would probably agree with that premise in some respect.  In my research it seems that this core understanding of a universe inhabited by human is stronger in the LDS faith than other religions. That’s the premise of The Conversion Conspiracy.

Is this belief in the Book of Mormon and Bible?   Not so much.  I made this case in my book (http://www.shanelesterbooks.com/id76.html) through quoting the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price and other Mormon leaders.

Is that a problem if it is not in the Bible or the Book of Mormon?  That is really up to you.

But this is how I look at it.  Both scriptures were written by prophets who spoke the will of God to man.  I don’t think it would be particularly helpful or relevant to have a chapter on intergalactic faith and Alien doctrine in any scripture.  We (me) have enough trouble just understanding and obeying what is in the Bible and Book of Mormon.  As I stated earlier, while UFO’s are interesting to talk about and for me to write about, does it really matter?  I say no!  This is why we and most other Christian denominations probably don’t address this issue.

Although this subject is interesting to some, I think as you search for truth keep in mind a string of logic. If God speaks to Prophets in the Bible and did the same in America (Book of Mormon) then did he speak to Joseph Smith?  If so, the other books of scripture that Mormons believe in are also from God, including scriptures that shed some light upon the question of for the extraterrestrial life.

But ultimately logic is meaningless.  To believe you have to have a spiritual experience, you have to feel it, you have to pray.  That is in fact what will be in the sequel to The Conversion Conspiracy.
